    Richard,

    The Zimmerit application is completed.

I just have to add a few detailling parts and then it will be time to start painting:D

Here are a few shots I have just taken, the turret being the last to receive the treatment.

    Regards
    Tom

    Miguel,

Yes, but Wedding cake tastes a bit better ;)

I have to say that it was not the easiest thing to model, plus a little messy applying :).

A coat of paint will work wonders:D

A coat of primer + a coat of paint + a coat of shading + a coat of (oil + grime + dust + mud + whatnot) will work wonders :D

looking good buddy. i can whole heartidly recomend saving up and getting the metal running gear. the road wheels are much better you can remove the rubbers before spraying it up. i tried to use (or should i say my son ahem...) his tiger with only the front metal sprockets and metal tracks. the idlers and roadwheels were plastic. the idlers dont last long and the tank will throw its tracks as soon as a hard turn is made.....of course if its going to remain static then i suppose it does not matter.

    looking good though bud

I've just started spraying my Tiger with 3 colour camo scheme. I must say though yours looks superb with the new gun barrel, commanders cupla and zimmerit. Please post pics when you've painted it.

I bought the Asprey book 'Modelling the Tiger I'

There are lots of good ideas and I will trying out different techniques.

I have been full of a cold over the last couple of weeks and lots of other work that needed doing so not much time spent in the workshop, just the quick sparay job to see what it looked like with photographic grey! which shows all imperfections up.

I am quite satisfied up to now and will not be spending money on metal upgrades etc even if they do look good.

In the book it shows a 1/16 Tamiya Tiger I with Aber exclusive edition upgrade!!

Looks fantastic, but bet it cost a fortune.

Re the video: YouTube - Scratch Built 1/6 Bren Gun Carrier.

All I can say is COR !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

    Ron

    Ron,

From experience, at what height would someone be simply too big to comfortably drive a Bren gun carrier? The drivers compartment looks awfully cramped.

it is very cramped buddy no room for airbags thats for sure, i am 5' 10" and i would say i was perfect height (ie when i drop the seat into lowerd position iam not stooping to view through the vision slots) once you are in the carrier it wraps itself around you....for taller people its the getting in and out at speed which would be the issue, trying to stand up without catching your legs on the glacis plate. i bet Ron could share a few stories on the carrier thats for sure..... perhaps on a different thread though as we have contaminated Smudgers tiger thread enough hehehe.. Sorry Smudger

Here is my Tiger so far. This is the first time I've ever tried a camo scheme on anything. Too be honest I'm not entierly happy with it. The colours are too bright because I didn't use the correct RAL codes. Also the badger airbrush I was using was on it's last legs. It still needs quite a bit doing to it. Lots more weathering, especially to the wheels and sub structure. I will also get around to adding decals and the wire engine covers.
I've since got rid of the Badger airbrush and moved on to an Iowata which although it takes more looking after does give a great finish.
I've also put a link at the bottom to a site that does pretty reasonable decals.

Smudger whats the thing you put on top of the turret in front of the loaders hatch? I know you ? Also I know you might have mentioned it but how hard was it to remove the original cupola?

    DG,

That is a periscope later fitted to turrets to help the loader observer.
There is also an air extractor added next to the Loaders hatch and Commanders Cupola.

It was not hard to take off the old commander Cupola in my case.

The items do not appear to have much adhesive applied and it came away ok with prying and the use of a razor knife.

I used a new knife blade and foolishly let it slip and slash my finger quite badly.:(

Self first aid and home made butterfly plasters and it was healed up in several days.:D

I then cut out the area beneath both hatches and opened them out.

The cupola from the panther was cut away from the turret in the same way, then glued on the Tiger Turret and milliput putty placed around the base and marked to appear as a weld.

Pretty straight forward, but be careful with the craft knife.

Your photos took a long time to come up on screen, but the tri-colour camouflage looks good to me.

    Regards
    Tom
