For context if you search online with: "118 field regiment" site:ww2talk.com it will identify a number of threads and most at a glance refer to the unit's surrender @ Singapore in 1942. This caught my eye, a book by a survivor. See: 483 Battery , 118 Field Regiment , Singapore

See: 118 (8th London) Field Regiment RA (TA) - The Royal Artillery 1939-45

There are members here whose expertise is Japanese POWs, hopefully they will be along. If not you may get their attention by changing the thread title to include Singapore POW. Go to the first post and select 'Edit' it will give you an option to change the title.

His Service Record is held by the National Archives (TNA), but is 'Closed' as they do not know he has passed. You will have to apply for it to be opened with official proof of his passing, a CWGC entry will suffice. For advice on applying from TNA: Request Closed MOD Personnel Records Yes, it can take up to a year to be processed.

    See: Name: H J Evans . Service number: 904537 . Date of birth: 25 November 1919 . | The National Archives

From the RA Roll maintained by the BRE in Changi. Shows that Henry Evans left for the Thai-Burma Railway on 27 Apr 43, which puts him in 'F' Force, one the worst work parties.
