Morning all. Researching WW2 casualties commemorated on my war memorial - Milnrow- and having great difficulty in finding out where his regiment - the 10th HLI were on the day he was killed , can any one help ? trying to add as much detail as possible to the scant information I have on him already. Thanks Ralph.
see here. https://docs.wixstatic.com/ugd/29af12_79b78b5396aa4c82bd275220fb4bcd45.pdf from here. 15th (Scottish) Infantry Division / War Diaries (June 1944 - May 1945) Thank forum member adbw for that.
They were part of - 15th (Scottish) Infantry Division - 15th (Scottish) Infantry Division - Wikipedia 30th July 1944 was the end of Hill 112 and the start of Operation Bluecoat (Operation Bluecoat - Wikipedia) TD
Again - WOW - amazing detail and information from you chaps. Really appreciated. Thanks a million. Ralph.
Hill 112 doesn't really end until 4 August. But yes, they were redeployed to participate in Operation Bluecoat. Few good books, even more if you dig about a bit: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Operation-...d=1495623663&sr=8-2&keywords=daglish+bluecoat https://www.amazon.co.uk/HISTORY-FI...23691&sr=8-2&keywords=HG+Martin+15th+scottish https://www.amazon.co.uk/Montys-Nor...23730&sr=8-1&keywords=Delaforce+15th+scottish Unfortunately the Regimental History, Proud Heritage, isn't that useful for NWE.
Ralph I assume you are researching Alan Schofield. If so, the book 10th HLI: Campaign in Europe 1944-45 has the following listing for him 3455320 - L/Cpl. Schofield, A. - 'B' Coy - Killed, Hervieux, 30th July 1944 Also a map from the same book
Many, many thanks fellows, did not know such detail was available out there, really appreciative of all the efforts from your goodselves, and yes I am reasearching Alan Schofield. Cheers Ralph.
