My great uncle was on HMS Poppy , is their a ships list to comfirm this? his name was AB /maybe PO Charlie Darran. i know he was on HMS Brilliant at the beginning of the war & had ww1 & interwar service. Kind regards Paul
Paul For his WW2 service you really need his service records - Requests for personal data and service records: a detailed guide they should list all his ships, both afloat and shore based For his WW1 records you need to see Ancestry or FMP or similar Did he have another initial ?? Name: Chas A Darran Medal or Award: Victory Medal, British War Medal Service Year: 1914-1920 Service Location: Europe Campaign or Service: World War I Service Number: J 86417 Before exploring WW1 further confirmation of the above and anymore details you have would be appreciated TD Was he Charles Alfred Darran, born Dec 1902 in Canning Town??
Have you considered joining the Flower Class Corvette Association? It is still thriving and Associate Members are welcome. Our veteran members are dwindling, inevitably as time progresses but there is a strong feeling to keep the memory alive.
His WW1 rank is given on the medal roll as 'Boy I', which would circumstantially support a d.o.b of 1902. I'd strongly recommend the Great War Forum to help research his WW1 service; they have a naval sub-forum.
I have a possible in here as well but was awaiting the OP's confirmation of the right man - still am in fact UK, Royal Navy Registers of Seamen's Services, 1848-1939 Name: Charles Alfred Darran Gender: Male Birth Date: 15 Dec 1902 Birth Place: Canning Town London First Service Date: 16 Feb 1918 First Ship Served On: Ganges II Last Service Date: 11 May 1926 Last Ship Served On: Cyclops Service Number: J86417 It lists his service and ships from 1918 to 1926 - if Pauls confrms or not then I will add the file TD
