    Officers only on my list.
A Major J S Richmond of the Nottinghamshire Zone, Trent River Patrol, which could have covered Leicester ?

I wonder if anyone could help. Just found a photo of my Great Grandfather Henry Robert Mitchell (also known as Harry).

He's dressed in fatigues with Home Guard shoulder titles and what looks like NR below this. He is the rank of 2Lt... any pointers on where I can get any more information about him? Much appreciated!!

Sorry, No H R Mitchell 1941, but he could have received a commision after this. NR might signify "North Riding" Division (Co Durham and part of Yorkshire) can you make out any numbers. Try and post the photo

Do you know his date of birth? Bit of a longshot but if it's 31 August 1919 then this could be his Home Guard service record: | The National Archives

The 12th Durham covered the Houghton-le-Spring Sector.

    Lee

Edit: Actually I guess the avbove is wrong as presumably your g. grandfather was too old rather than being too young for the regular forces?

Many thanks both of you. Here is a photograph. Regrettably it's cropped where the shoulder titles are so I can't really make out numbers. NR would fit in with his locality as he was in Stockton on Tees / Middlesbrough area.

Stockton was the 19th Battalion, NR Division, in 1941. So that could be a 19.

Looks like he saw some service WW1 ?

Yes, I believe he was RAOC (SSgt) during WW1 and have found a medal card which corroborates this (with the same ribbons as seen in the photo above).

    Many thanks for the information

    HI Peter,

Do you have a Malcolm Ferguson in Derbyshire? He was a Boer War/WW1 veteran who i believe was a 2nd Lt in the HG in May 1941.

    Thanks,

    David

Great photo of the 12th (Saxilby) Battalion, Paul.

Like the way they have arranged the MkIII Sten and two P17 rifles!

I am trying to find details about Home Guard Units in Norfolk - specifically in Marshland. There are none listed in the county list but I know there was a unit in Clenchwarton - my father was in it- and also in Terrington St Clement. Any suggestions as to where I can find more information?

    Hi DiP
There is not that much information about HG battalions,in theory the area you are talking about should be in the 7th battalion kings Lynn and Sanderingham. But may in fact be in 3rd Holland East Elloe Battalion Holbeach. or under a Wisbech one. There used to be a list of the battalions and the area that they covered on AIX but now they have changed to Airfield research group, that information has disappeared.

There is a couple of pages here about Terrington home guard if you have not already seen it.

Hello all, trying to find information about my maternal grandfather Donald McNeil who was in the Home Guard in Newcastle Upon Tyne. Does he appear in the Northern list?

Some years since request, but ……. this was the Bishop Norton platoon, noted for the marksmanship of its members and names as far as possible are:

    Rear Standing L-R
Bill McKay, Maurice? Kirk, Jack Sanderson, ? , Jim Taylor, Billy Everett, Herbert Johnson, Charlie Richardson

    Centre Standing L-R
Albert Mablethorpe, Charlie Pitchley, William Taylor, Matt Frankish, Edwin Clark, Ted Blades, Peter Akrill, Tommy Dickinson

    Front Seated L-R
Frank Dickson, Ray Everett, TH Russell, Maj ? Smith, Capt Frank Akrill, Joe Cook, SM Roberts, John Sanderson

Source: Bishop Norton Parish History booklet by Peter Stopp (1986) - No date for image

Unnamed on back row very very tentatively suggested as Les Martin.
