    Rob,

The Hard Drive arrived earlier today (Cheers for the tip!). The only problem is-it's saying 23,852 pictures (I didn't realise I had that many WW2 related pictures) taking 23hrs and 37mins to copy !

    We did though.
    :)

Just done a check through my photos file and I have a similar amount of pics. I bet other members probably have more. Imagine if you lost that lot because you had not backed them up.

Before digital cameras arrived, I hated taking pics because of the aggro involved. Since then, over 20,000, like yourself. The majority since joining this site 2 years ago. (How surprising. Feels like it was only yesterday).;)

Looked forward to confirmation you've completed the task.

All done and all albums deleted from my laptop except the WW2 Stuff to speed my PC up.

The ones I have at home are paper copies as it was of the time before the digital camera and scanning.
The ones for the company, we have papers copies, they are scanned and place like you guys do under unit, and then the papers copies are stored on a safe place, and ofcourse we have a gopod back up system, for the scanned copies

What software do you use for storing your photos and how do you catalouge them.
Do you use date order or subject?
Reson for asking I am in the process of reviewing my miniscule collection of 7000 and wondering if I should update software and recatalouge

I'm in the process of collecting all the BEF files and I'm storing them in the order of the Orbat of May 1940.

Diaries of units from I Corps are being stored under I Corps and so on but what/where would you put units that were not under a specific higher formation though? For example the Guards Battalions that were at Boulogne - Would/should they go under GHQ?

They were 20th Guards Bde, if that helps you decide at all.

Who were 20 Grds Bde under Di ?

I've started a fifth formation for the 'odds and sods'. I know have GHQ, 1,2 and 3 Corps and I've added Independent Units for units like 20 Guards Bde and The King's Royal Rifle Corps that don't come under the first four.

I just save them in files on my hard drive. Each files covers a trip to France, BEF Black and White pictures, Cemeteries, VC and GC graves, Kent coast, Citations, Royal Sigs pics etc.

All the BEF war diaries I'm storing in order of the May 1940 Orbat. Starting with GHQ and inside that files is 1,2 and 3 Corps and then the Divs, Bdes, Bn's etc.

I bought another portable hard drive today just for my WW2 stuff as its now at 80gb and I expect it to be over 100gb by next w/end.

Hope thats clearer than mud

Andy - The one you bought, is One Terabyte capacity, that's 1024 Gigabytes. I think you will have a little bit of time before that one gets full.;)

I know but I wanted two seperate ones. One just for WW2 stuff and the other with all my other shit on-The WW2 one stays with my laptop when I go away and the other upstairs.

    Simples
