How long should I expect to wait to receive a RM service record?

    Hi,
I do not wish to be impatient at all but around late September last year I applied for my gt uncle John Thompson's service record, (Casualty Details) and around a week later, I got a letter confirming payment just as I did when I applied for an army record for his brother before expect that only took around 3 weeks for the whole service record to arrive.
Although it's unsure if John was always part of the landing craft crew or was part of a RM commando unit or army commando unit, as he was killed as a landing craft crew member I applied to the RN for a RM record.
How long should I wait before applying again, perhaps to the Army instead, or is it possible the record is no longer available?
I don't mean to come across impatient, it's just that I'm starting to have doubts if the record is available, especially as it only took 3-4 weeks to apply for an army record!

It took around 6-7 months for me to receive my grandfather's service details and he served as a stoker in Combined Ops.
I would imagine that if the record isn't available they would still let you know.

I would suggest a phone call

Has the cheque you sent been cashed or not - that is usually a point at which MOD have found the records, they do not normally cash it unless they have found the relevant records - or so I am led to believe
