My grandpa's discharge papers refer to this as his unit: HQ Co 3rd BU 320 Inf. Anyone know what is BU? I found an abbreviations list on this site and it's listed as "bath unit" but I'm more inclined to think it's battalion in this case.

    Hi,

Could you attach a copy of the document that contains the queried entry please - so members can interpret it in context.

Was he in a British (including Empire/Commonwealth nations) Unit prior to his discharge.

The entry you've shared doesn’t read as a typical British style service record entry - more like US forces?

Hi, thank you. Attached is his separation form. He was in the US forces.

    Hi,

You may get a more informed response if you post on the sister site ww2f which is a more American forces centric forum compared to this British forces centric forum.

Having said that there is a crossover of members so you may well get the answer here. Sorry but I can’t help with the answer.

    Good Luck.

    Steve
