I see that the USS Carl Vinson is sailing into the Persian Gulf because of the current Iran Israel conflict. It occurred to me that it has been in commission far longer than any warship was during WWII. The oldest warship in WWII that I can think of was the Schleswig-Holstein and she was only in commission for 32 years by 1940 and Carl Vinson is already at 43 years and counting.

A few days later, the real men trying to catch her eye were painfully hobbling about with lobstered feet adorned by insect bites, whilst Miles Didn't-come-down-the-Tiber-on-a-water-biscuit had no such grief. Looking forwards to an avatar of sandals being worn with Fusslappen, although after today's rain, maybe time to dig-out the old ventile birrus britannicus?
