I need some info on these bullets I have put pics on. I think they are aa gun bullets used on a ship during ww2
No, they are not 2 Pr. anti-aircraft rounds from WW2. They are 37mm 1 Pr. French rounds for the Hotchkiss revolving cannon. They are 37mm Model 1885 rounds made in 1917 at the Parc d'Artllerie de Paris. Regards TonyE
TonyE, I know that the round was first developed for the Hotchkiss revolving cannon, but in 1917 wouldn't it have been more likely that the ammo would be intended for a Maxim automatic gun or a single-barrel trench gun, or even an aircraft gun - or is there something specific about this loading which indicates that it was intended for one of the few remaining revolver guns?
Absolutely true. Perhaps I should have said "developed for the Hotchkiss..." However, there are plenty of pictures of the revolving cannon in French service in WWI, both in fortress mounts and in the field. Regards TonyE
The Hotchkiss revolving cannon was still in use in WW1. The French used it as a fortress gun and it was mounted on some Russian small craft. The Germans converted numbers of captured French and Belgian ones into trench guns.
What was the type of round used the FT 17 french tanks, that was 37mm but not sure if its the one pictured. Most of these rounds have lost their painted finish, what was the original finish, anyone seen one.
Looked around the net and saw these. Do some searches on "37×94 mm R" and you might see some pictures with colors. Renault FT - Wikipedia Puteaux SA 18 - Wikipedia 37 x 94 R – 37 mm modèle 1885
