    Hi Everyone,

I’m doing some family history digging and I’ve found lots of photos of my great grandfather - Walter William Waller b1903 - we know where he served roughly but not who with or what he did. He served in Egypt and Jerusalem. We don’t know his service number. I’ve attached one of many photos in the hope that someone may be able to identify the cap badge / uniform. I hope that this is okay, many thanks, Tom.

    Hi,

If he served in the Middle East he wasn’t with Cambridgeshire Regiment at that time as their Battalions were part of the ill fated 18th Division captured at the fall of Singapore.

Best apply for his service record. Service number not essential as MOD will search on full name and DOB only.

I had the same thoughts, but as Steve says both senior battalions were in Singapore.

Thank you very much for all of you’re quick replies. I didn’t realise I could send off for info without his service number so that’s great, thank you. Ive just noticed in another picture that the cap badge changed by the early 40’s - please see attached. Is it possible he would have moved from the Cambridgeshire Regiment?

    Agreed.

There were various non operational roles in RE suitable for older men. An uncle served in RE Postal Service in Egypt - dealing with letters to and from soldiers throughout ME Command.

    His records will reveal all.
