Looks like a Mack NO. A common tractor in Medium and Heavy Regiments.

  3. Trux

    Trux 21 AG

Mack NM. A size smaller than NO.

  4. Outstanding, gents.
My father guessed NM5 after much deliberation but wanted a second opinion.
That's my grandad's unit I assumed it was all Matadors.

Can you tell me the Theatre they used USA Macks--looks like desert?
(book lists BEF, ME, Italy, NW Europe as Theatres)

Mack NM were used by the Canadian Army as a medium arillery tractor. British forces in Italy were also issued with them as the old Matadors wore out. It made sense to send vehicles direct from N.America to Italy and supply forces at home or NW Europe with British vehicles when available.

3rd Medium RA was under I Cdn Corps in Italy for a long while, as well as in NWE (under 21 AG).
