The Gasworks is now mostly regenerated with a few holders still in situ being converted to flats
The WW1 names are not easily readable.

Just seems a staggering number, especially in WW2 for what would seem to be a single area/business in London, until you read:-
The Gas, Light and Coke Company was one of the largest employers in the London area, employing thousands at several different sites. Three sets of identical memorials have been photographed. The first are now situated alongside the Brentford town war memorial outside Brentford library (see photograph below). It was moved from its original location outside the Company works when they closed. The second set are at the Company’s former site in Fulham and the third are at Twelvetrees, Bromley-by-Bow.

A real industrial past that is being preserved in a few places
A few more photos of the surrounding area.

A little surprised over your comment about the gas holders being converted to flats. Magnificent examples of cast iron construction they may be but how are they converted? Or are they being demolished and the land used for building?

Robert everything I post (unless stated) is taken by me on my travels sometimes when in situ if I see something very unusual I will see if I can speak to a local person to try to gain more info.In this instance it was a builder/workman who said they were trying to get them converted to flats like Kings Cross.it is still being developed.Bow Common Gasworks – Redevelopment of Bow Common Gasworks
I think it possibly unlikely due to them being grade 2 listed but others have been converted and the company there are cleaning the site of 150 plus years of toxic produce in the soil.

Thanks - not so much converting as building a new structure inside the cast iron one

They convert the structure into another use whether it be external or internal the use changes in the conversion

Sorry but they don't convert the structure. The internal gas cylinder is entirely replaced by a self standing building that occupies the same space whilst the original cast iron frame no longer has any structural purpose and remains as a separate architectural feature.

Oh dear Bob I take into account your vintage and all the trials an tribulations life has thrown at you but most threads you put on your big head approach and always having to have the last word and be right. This could put the sensible posters off from posting again.
Your comment "Sorry but they dont convert the structure" is exactly a comment I would expect from you
You know exactly what I mean by the post it is quite obvious as do other forum members.
As stated many times by myself you have a lot to give and if you dont agree with a comment or can add something there are polite ways of doing so away from the hands behind the head approach.

I think you need to look at yourself but of course you wont.

So I will not take the comments that are unhelpful on my posts or any other post and will continue to reply as ridiculous as it is.

Now I am one that will never give up in the advent of smart arsed ridiculous replies so this is going to go on until I get banned. All it does is take away from the original post. plus my replies also take away from the original post.

Wanting to learn more I googled 'Gasometer conversion' - it threw up numerous articles many of which used the term 'conversion' - King's Cross, The Oval, Dublin, Vienna etc.
