Good afternoon All hopefully this photo has uploaded .. the man in the middle is our research subject , can anyone identify the Indian regiment please ? we know he served Ww2 , but possibly this is pre ww2 .. My family has no knowledge of his war time . Thanks dean
EDIT: Looked at too many pictures and am not so sure. I reckon Indian Cavalry, but the uniforms are too similar and the sources I keep finding are Great War-Era. Try here: Indian Army I'm not at expert, but I want to say, from the spectacular headwear, Hodson's Horse: 4th Horse (Hodson's Horse) - Wikipedia As you can see, they were amalgamated for the Second World War as 10th Duke of Cambridge's Own Lancers (Hodson's Horse). Google around and compare with some images; I'm failing to find many photos.
I too looked earlier and found Google had very few images available. There was an Indian Military History Society (IMHS), which published a journal 'Durbar', but they ceased to operate in December 2020. Looked through the Durbar index, nothing fund. That was the place to ask if all help here fails. IMHS has folded into Welcome - Military Historical Society I am unsure if they would publish a RFI or have a blog site.
There is a drawing of a British Officer Hodson's Horse but he wears an Indian uniform, so perhaps the photo above is not Hodson's Horse Indian army uniforms under the British from the 18th century to 1947 : Carman, W.
