Looking for info on grandfather - served in the SAS in 1942 - name is Ronald James Harris - born August 9 1921, died July 31 1995 in Warrington, Cheshire. This is a scan from the original photo - there's a few bits and pieces of memorabilia and can remember when I was younger he used to attend all sorts of events and had magazines, knives etc - not sure where any of that got to! Other info - his nickname was Bomber Harris, and was injured in Italy at some point
welcome to the forum Do you have anything else at all that would associate him with the SAS apply for his service records Get a copy of military service records other forum members might be able to add more
There’s a load of invites to the various sas get togethers from over the years, apparently he has a mention in a book - I think it’s Stirling’s biography where he’s described as shooting a German leaping over some debris attacking them. Also seem to remember an article in the Warrington Guardian from probably around 1990 where he was looking for past servicemen
B Squadron was operating during November 42, there is a Harris in the SRS roll but the initial is H, he was Rifle Brigade.
Hi, There is no short cut to discovering his military service activities - you need to apply to U.K. MOD for his service records via the link that has been provided. I’ve alerted forum member Skip to your post as he has an interest in Special Forces and may be able to assist. Good Luck Steve
