Driver Crossley was one of the four RASC Air Despatchers on the aircraft. There is some excellent information on pages 272/273 of the book "Green On" by Arie-Jan Van Heys.

Just been reading this thread and started to look around for details of H E Colman
UK, Commonwealth War Graves, 1914-1921 and 1939-1947
    Name: Henry Everest Colman
    Age: 19
    Birth Date: abt 1925
    Death Date: 24 Sep 1944
    Cemetery: Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery
    Burial Country: Netherlands
    Father: Leslie Ewart Colman
    Mother: Louie Elizabeth Colman
    Regimental Number: J/93540
    Region or Memorial: Netherlands

But then I noticed the possibility that he was British born:
England & Wales, Civil Registration Birth Index, 1916-2005
    Name: Henry E Colman
    Mother's Maiden Surname: Everist
    Date of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec 1924
    Registration district: York
    Inferred County: Yorkshire East Riding
    Volume Number: 9d
    Page Number: 24

Albeit a slightly different spelling of Everest/Everist

    But then:
Canada, WWII Service Files of War Dead, 1939-1947
    Name: Henry Everest Colman
    Birth Date: 29 Sep 1924
    Birth Place: York, England
    Residence Place: Toronto, Ontario
    Death Date: 24 Sep 1944
    Service Number: J93540
    Regiment: Royal Canadian Air Force
    Rank: Pilot Officer
Next of Kin: Leslie E Colman
    Relationship: Father

    His files are accessible

The file of w/op Springsteele has some information, including the attached from survivor Gleave to Mrs Springsteele.

Thank you very much. I really appreciate this. My Dad is still alive and am doing this as much for him as myself. He was only 4 at the time and has few recollections of these events, I’m not sure he ever really knew. I will sit with him and go through these along with the pics I took such as the crash site as it is now. Take care, love to all, Mark

    Hi Mark,

I spent some time researching Henry E. Colman some years ago, because I'm fairly convinced he was my grandfather. It's a long story, lost largely in the fog of war, but many things point to it being the case. The only thing missing for me (and my brother) is some kind of photo - the only one we found was of the crew of the fated plane, which showed everyone BUT Colman. If you, or anybody else has any idea where we could get a photo, my brother and I would be extremely grateful.

    All the Best

    Matt
