I have references to IR signalling devices being used by the Inland Patrol Flotilla to signal shore parties in France during insertions and extractions. I also have references to IR signalling devices being used by the Special Reconnaissance Department (SRD)to direct aircraft final approaches into DZs in Borneo/New Guinea.
    My questions are:
Does anyone have any further information or references to IR devices being used by the Special Operations Executive, 62 Commando or the SRD?
Does anyone have any info on IR paints being used for target identification or IR devices being used by the Allies for target surveillance or target illumination?
Thanks for any info or insights you might have v/r lutz

Very Useful! Thank you. Your sources confirmed a number of suspicions I had. I believe the SRD used at least the Tabby Type K device based on descriptions contained in different sources and indeed RG (Red Green) devices were used by Naval sections and Air Landing sections. I am now further surmising that my references of SOE contacts with the Metal Box Company on "unspecified electronics" was most likely the DSR working with the Company on ultra-violet technologies (possibly readers or inks) both of which the DSR was involved in.
Always layers and puzzles and new information to learn. V/R

Maybe should scan in the W&T/Vanderveen references thereof. There's an article or two in there that beat quite a bit of Internet bcontent still.
