Hello all, I've just received this Wostenholm knife from my father. It belonged to his father who served in the British army during WW2 with the Royal Engineers. My limited research would indicate that it is a Canadian knife, which would be possible as he served alongside the Canadians in 30 corps in NW europe. Does anybody know what the number stamp on the marlin spike signifies ? My initial thought was that it is a Canadian soldiers service number. I have looked at numerous others and none have this type of number on them. Thanks for looking, Mac.
Hi, Didn't Canadian military (all 3 branches) have a letter at the start of their service number? Steve Y
Yes, the Army assigned a letter based on the Militia district and each regiment had an assigned range of 1-5 digit numbers. i.e. Essex Scottish Regiment Militia District A Number range: 21100 - 26999
