My father found this sometime before 1944 in a railway compartment which, he was told, had just been vacated by P.o.Ws. - presumed German. It's about 2cm high. Any idea what it is?

Must be the wrong war! My father was born on the Isle of Man in 1909, and I believe there was a POW camp there. He must have found this at that time, and I misremembered the story. Thanks for sorting that out.
