    Hiya all,

I am trying to do some research for someone and help out their family. All they know is his name was John Chamberlain and he was in the Royal Engineers. He served in Burma and that is far as it goes I am afraid. Sorry not much of a lead on this. They did mention the Chindits but not sure if there is a connection. He did survive the war to add.

    Thanks

    Danny

Follow CL1's advise - it really is the only way to start - you/they will need a death certificate and if they dont have one we can find the details but obvioulsy would need a date of death and where

    Hi Danny
That narrows it down to about 1000 - do they intend or want to send away for his service records? - if they do they will need a copy of his death certificate - do they have one? - if not, when did he die and where, it would also be beneficial to have some idea of his birth year. If they do not intend obtaining his service records then we will forever be going down blind alleys which I for one have no intention of doing

    Danny,
Not all soldiers who enlisted into the services entered their middle names,( WW1 especially) So their birth/death date, and where they lived becomes crucial to finding the right person as mentioned above.

Bang on! Thats him. Great work apparently he escaped death twice in combat. Any military service the family would be so grateful to find out.

    Thanks

The only way you/they will find out anything about his military service is to apply for his service records
