Some more great work there HW and I'm grateful for the new images of Captain Williams and Captain Cotton.
It is still a work in progress as War time Indian Army Commissions usually give the full name only in the London Gazette and do not give the E.C. service number. British Army commission notices usually give the full name only on the first entry but do give you the service number making it easier to find someone using just the number. War time Indian Army promotions do not seem to appear in the London Gazette and the only time an Indial Army officer will be re mentioned is if he has been awarded a gallantry medal or mentioned in Despatches. The Indian Army lists are very useful but do not give the full name or army number, promotions and sometimes, date of birth are shown. Several of the officers in the photograph are proving to be elusive, e.g. P.C. Jones, who I cannot find in the London Gazette around the date of his first commission, 12th January 1940. He appears in the 1942 Indian Army List as having an Emergency Commission in the Royal Artillery. I am sure that I will find him, eventually.

186401 2nd Lieut. Douglas Alan Bird. Royal Engineers. Died 24th June 1944. The son of Lieutenant-General Sir Clarence August Bird. K.C.I.E., C.B., D.S.O., and Lady Bird, M.B.E. (Nee Nichols), of New Delhi, India. Douglas Alan Bird was born at Simla in 1922 and so far the circumstances of his death are a mystery to me. He is commemorated on the Brookwood 1939-1945 Memorial in Woking despite having been officially buried in Sewri, Bombay on the 25th June 1944. "The BROOKWOOD 1939-1945 MEMORIAL commemorates nearly 3,500 men and women of the land forces of the Commonwealth who died during the Second World War and have no known grave, the circumstances of their death being such that they could not appropriately be commemorated on any of the campaign memorials in the various theatres of war. They died in the campaign in Norway in 1940, or in the various raids on enemy occupied territory in Europe such as Dieppe and St Nazaire. Others were special agents who died as prisoners or while working with Allied underground movements. Some died at sea, in hospital ships and troop transports, in waters not associated with the major campaigns, and a few were killed in flying accidents or in aerial combat. The Memorial was designed by Ralph Hobday and unveiled by Queen Elizabeth II on 25 October 1958. The Memorial stands in BROOKWOOD MILITARY CEMETERY which is owned by the Commission and is the largest Commonwealth war cemetery in the United Kingdom, covering approximately 37 acres."
