Thank you for replying. My father was wounded at 11.30 on 22nd April and up to 15 of his comrades were killed by a young German soldier with a machine gun before he was killed. This was in an area that had been "mopped up". Couldnt find anything on CWGC that matched.

  7. Euphemia,
You may want to have a look at the Argenta Gap War Cemetery (https://www.cwgc.org/visit-us/find-...wQFnoECBsQAQ&usg=AOvVaw0TKOpgXV6VitLRiRUbPw3p) and see whether they have an index of graves. At least one member of my dad's 73 Med Regt RA battery was killed during the drive North to the Po river and is buried there.
Senseless as the German Army in northern Italy surrendered a few days later, but of course the rank and file didn't know that at the time and were expected to press the attack.

Thanks already done. My father survived but his friend Pierce who was also wounded died on 23rd and was buried at Argenta Gap cemetery.

  9. Gunner Brown is buried at the Argenta Gap cemetery. Gunner Legge was killed at Faenza and was buried at the cemetery there.

  11. Hello Euphemia,
    Thank you.
My father was a junior officer in 282 battery and recorded the deaths of Gunners Legge and Brown in a photo album I received after his death in 2004.
I would very much appreciate a link or directions to the War diaries for 73rd Med Regt.
    Kind regards,
    Chris

There is a formular for converting coordinates to places if you ask on this site I am sure someone will tell you.

If your father wasn't wounded the Royal Artillery Tracer Cards provide some information on where a person was. They are on ancestry.co.uk. unfortunately if they were full they were discarded.

  16. Thank you! My dad wasn't wounded in action, but he did keep track of his battery throughout the Italian campaign.
