I am trying to research , Leslie, service number, 4688092. How can I determine his surname? It seems he was originally Kings Own Light Infantry. I believe he was with the Duke of Wellingtons 1942 onwards. Thank you in advance. Veronica.
What's the source of the info you've got Veronica... wonder if there's any wider clues re his BMD / non-military details that could get us going? Paul
Is this too early, coincidence? Royal Tank Corps Enlistment Records, 1919-1934 First name(s) Leslie Last name Guest Birth year - Service number 4688092 Regiment Royal Tank Corps Attestation year 1919 Birth county - Birth country - Tank corps number 4688092 Record set Royal Tank Corps Enlistment Records, 1919-1934 Discharged 25.3.33 - Para 199/5 TA Regs
Thanks for your quick reply Paul. I am a volunteer for The Duke of Wellington's at Halifax. I was given the service number 4688092 Leslie ? With the hopeful conclusion that he became a Chindit with Operation Thursday. I am unable to pay for each service record which may give me that information. I have no other details except service number, Christian name, plus original regiment , Kings Own Light Infantry. I am sorry that this is scant information, it is all I have. Veronica.
Agreed he enlisted into KOYLI Army Number Block Allocations The King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry 4680001 - 4736000
Thank you Tony, I think this is a little early. I was given the date for Leslie ? Sept, Oct , early November 1943 training as Chindits within the north west frontier . Thereafter, 23rd brigade ( Including the "Dukes") were given the task of severing the lines off three Japanese columns. Was Leslie a member of The " Dukes" and 23rd Brigade? Veronica.
