I recently found the booklet 12th Parachute Battalion in Germany 24th March-16th May 1945, this was L/Cpl. O'Ogrady's copy. He typed out this account and is signed by Lt-Col. K.T. Darling. Inside there were two photos, one a repro, I assume is L/Cpl. O'Grady sitting on a horse but also what looks like a captured German photo of German artillery and motorbikes. Thought this might be of interest. N.B.it seems that if you are a para in Germany you must have a photo taken astride a horse. Brithm
Inspired by geoff501's "Bash On" post I dug up my scans of the 12th Parachute Bn in Germany booklet, which L/Cpl. O'Grady typed out (12 Para) in Singapore; The 12th (Yorkshire) Parachute Battalion in Germany 24th March-16th May 1945 "I have written this account as a tribute to the grand men whom I had the honour to command during those historic days in Germany" Lt-Col. K.T. DarlingC.O. 12th Yorkshire Battalion,The Parachute Regiment. Brithm
I actually have two copies of these, one is Capt Sim's the other L/Cpl. O'Grady's both signed by Lt-Col. Darling. Brithm
It is mentioned at the foot of Page 11 of my scans, I assumed it had never seen the light of day. Just noticed also it is in the Bibliography of the book Para Memories by Eric Barley & Yves Fohlen.
Mark Hickman has kindly put up ‘The 12th Yorkshire Parachute Battalion in Germany, 24th March-16th May 1945 by Lieutenant-Colonel K.T. Darling’ on his website. http://www.pegasusarchive.org/varsity/rep12thBnGermany.htm
This is incredible I’ve been searching for this for a LONG time as it’s in the bibliography of para memories! Thank you so much!
