    Hi,

    Welcome to the forum.

Forum member skip has an interest in SAS - I'm sure he'll spot your message shortly. If not perhaps drop him a PM after the weekend.

It might help if you are able to provide your fathers name?

Have you obtained his service record from Glasgow?

In the meantime you may wish to try and get sight of this brand new publication - described as the authoritative history so it may have him listed there.

The SAS and LRDG Roll of Honour 1941-47

    Good Luck

    Hi John

Might be worth, if you feel you can, adding his name, original unit etc to help others to help you.

As Steve says obtaining his service records is really the first step

    Hi John,
it seems that even not 1 but 2 O Neill had served with the SAS but they had not the same service number you mentioned. Have you any more details.

    Hi John
that date should be then after 21 July 42 as he only left then to North Africa.
May be the full name of your dad, would bring some clarification. That would be around the time the 2 O Neill's had joined the SAS.

    Hi,

I'm a little confused as your first post says your Dad was with L Detachment 30.11.41 - suggesting he was an SAS Original (confirmed by "Association"?) - but your most recent post says he only went to North Africa in November 1942?

  9. Hi Steve
I contacted the Association ,which you probably know hold the records for S.A.S ,and they told me that he did serve with them from 30-10-41 to 08-06-42 some 8 months then posted to 3rd Para Air school before going to North Africa in Nov of1942

    Hi John
there was a J O Neill with the service number
150310 who had joined the SAS either very late in 1942 or beginning of 1943.
You did not come around that service no by accident

  11. Hi my friend,
I have his complete service record and it states he was posted to S.A.S. 30-10-41 and being posted to 3rd Para Air School 08-06-42 and then 3rd Para Batt 21-07-42 ,his service number was 5437468 ,so i don't think the soldier you have can be my dad ,wrong number wrong dates.
Many thanks for your effort. J.T.O
