Major Ronald Tomlinson, I think 1st Battalion Kia 10th July, 1941 Burried - Ismailia Cemetery, Egypt Killed escorting surrendering Italian soldiers Any information, or pointer to his unit War Diary Many thanks Ned
Dedicated to remembering entry number 244 of Trafford with the surname of Tomlinson that fought in both world wars for our freedom. Casualty Details | CWGC Page 6781 | Supplement 34703, 6 October 1939 | Lond... Was first reported 'Dangerously ill' and then reported 'Died'
Off the top of my head, the 1st Battalion were in India at the time. Moreover, l do not think any of the Lancashire Fusilier battalions were in Egypt at the time, nor anywhere in the Middle East. That suggests he was attached to another unit or formation at the time. Without knowing which unit, it is impossible to know which war diary to look up. Is KIA the appropriate term to use? That was normally an acronym used to describe those dieing in combat on the front line. The Army List of April 1941 shows he was a Territorial Army Lieutenant who had been promoted on 6 Jan 1941 to both War Service Captain and Temporary Major.
