A while back researching the A13 Mk2 tank, i noticed that there were only two remaining in the world, one at Bovington tank museum and one in a poor state at the Dunkirk museum. Apparently the Dunkirk A13 was scrapped after years of neglect. Not sure what the full story was scrapping such a rare tank, does anyone know why or has someone rescued it. I also wonder if what happened to the A13s captured after the fall of France by the Germans bought into service and used most probably on the Russian front, did any survive.

I think, that maybe an A9 or A10
The A13 had a more Crusader looking turret and Christie suspension

It was an A13 Mk I (or Cruiser Mk III) - the history of its loss and recovery was covered in After The Battle No23 Page 40 Tank Recovery At Dunkirk | WW2Talk. My understanding is that there wasn’t the requisite budget for conservation and it deteriorated as a consequence. Having said that, the A10E1 prototype was recovered from a range and is undergoing restoration – perhaps the salt was the determining factor.

Apparently nine A13 formed part of Panzer-Abteilung (F) 100 which was equipped with Flammpanzer II for Barbarossa but they didn’t survive long.

Would have taken a bit of hard graft to sort that out, but i have seen miracles performed they even revive bits of Spitfires to their former glory, so no excuses apart from money. I am sure someone in this country would have taken on the project. Is it scrapped scrapped or sitting in a scrap yard waiting to be destroyed.
