My understanding is that Layforce was comprised of 7, 8, 11 & 51/52 Commando.
I was wondering when they came together in the Western Desert?
How long they stayed there. (Some went to Crete May 1941).
And what a Commando Battalion war establishment for the Middle East looked like.

Can anyone help with any of the above please.

    John.

That is very helpful, thank you!

Just a couple of questions remaining.

What is the Home Commando War Establishment?
When did 11 Commando leave N.A for Cyprus?
    When did 7, 8 & 50/52 Commando return to N.A from Crete?

    Thanks again.
    David.

They returned to North Africa, landing in Egypt, on the 1st June. As to your other questions I'm afraid that I don't have the answers to hand at present.

John - that looks like a very interesting file. Does it have a WO reference at Kew?

    Cheers

I'm afraid that I copied this many years ago before I got into the habit of recording the yellow retrieval card at the start of each file that I copied. However I'm fairly certain that it comes from DEFE 2/711B

Cheers John - will copy that next time I'm down at Kew. Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.
