In tracing Alfred William Reed's service, we know that after Home Service in 1940-41, he was transferred to North Africa arriving in Alexandria in January 1942 and served (as a driver with 103MU and 3R&RP) through the North African campaign ending with the Axis surrender in 1943. We know that he served in Sardinia and the Italian mainland in 1944 before returning to the UK to RAF Binbrook in Lincolnshire.
Amongst his papers and photographs there are some photographs with his handwriting on the reverse stating Corsica December 1943 and January 1944.
Can anyone suggest any reason why he might have been in Corsica at that time?
many thanks for any help or suggestion.

Many thanks for the link. I understood that the RAF had some involvement on Corsica but was not aware that it was as early as Alfred Reed’s photographs indicate.
