    Hi all.
I am looking for my dad.
He was a private in the Border Regiment.
His name is Leonard William Penn.
In have no Army number or even his date of birth, all I have is he was born in 1919.
Either, Hackney or Islington, London area.
He married my mum in 1944.
    They divorced in 1966.
    That's all I have guys.
    Thank you.

Hello and welcome to the forum.
I've moved your post to a separate thread.

We always recommend that people starting off their research apply to MOD for copy service records.
Request records of deceased service personnel
See link for full details of requirements & procedure.
However, in order to apply for copy service Records, you will need his DOB and and a copy death certificate (or similar proof), The usual genealogy sites are the best places to start for this.

If he were taken prisoner, or wounded, or awarded a gallantry medal, he might feature in the limited records available online.

The London Gazette 24th January 1946 has this:
    From: https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/37442/supplement/644/data.pdf

Going backwards the list is for those awarded the Military Cross (on pg.635). However the Dorsetshire Regiment Museum lists him as receiving the Military Medal; I must have missed something scrolling through the pages.
See: Devotion To Duty Book Launched - The Keep Military Museum, Dorchester, Dorset

The recommendation for the Military Medal is available (for a fee) via: Recommendation for Award for Penn, Leonard William Rank: Private Service No:... | The National Archives Note this shows him serving in North West Europe with the No 6 Commando Dorsetshire Regiment.

The actual recommendation, plus a photo (below) and his nickname 'Inky' are shown on: PENN, Leonard William | ͏

    He appears here too: No 6 Commando Nominal P - Z | ͏

An estate agency, Foxtons, shows E8 as:
Obviously this could be another man, as he served in a different regiment and you have no DoB yet.

    Good luck.
