Sapper, I take a look in the historie pages and I figured out.....the name is Loobeek and if you are in the little village of Holthees it's called from there the Molenbeek. This name i can found in the early years arond 1900 so the real name is Loobeek. My wife's grandfather had a farmers house between Overloon and Merselo. In this farmers house there was a hospital. Can you remember that ??
No mate. ... I happened to be out on the road between Overloon and Venraij in the early hours, collecting the next days battle orders. Till I was hit right where the road crosses the beek. I was on my return from Venraij..... Severely wounded..... Desultory shell fire... Oddly enough the Dutch War museum at Overloon refers to the beek as the Molenbeek. Sure it seems they are the same beek..
Yes true - so we dont need to change the history books . It's like are we talking about the street of Dover or Calais.
British sources consequently talk about the Molenbeek, although the 1938 Dutch maps (with German WW II overprint) designate it the Loobeek; It might be a question of map versions used for planning the operation
Dear Sapper: Read with great interest and much admiration your account and send warm regards from another 'Old Stager'. Joe Brown
Hello, I'm after some help and advice please? My great uncle Harry Baxter is buried in Venray, he was with the Royal Armoured Corps, 2nd Fife & Forfar Yeomanry. But I can't see any mention of his unit in your thread or on pathe site. My dad has huge interest in wartime history and I'd love to give him something special for Christmas . Some history about his uncle, and where he fought, unit etc. He was only 23 when he died! can anyone help me please?
