Hello, following the wd of the linc and well for early September 1944. I am particularly interested in September 1st and 2nd, this regiment having released Airaines. When reading this letter, it is not indicated, on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd of September, that the regiment has suffered losses. However, on the CWGC site, we can see that there were 2 soldiers killed: Private DRAPER Walter Robert Corporal TOIVONEN Larry jr having only this page, how can I find information about their deaths? Can we find this information on the full wd? What is the reference of this wd? on the LMH site I found these reference "RG24 C3 Volume 15104" but that does not correspond to anything on the site HERITAGE. Does anyone have the right match? Thank you for your answers cordially Franck
Hi Franck, From CWGC Concentration records it's clear that one man was killed in action on and the other died of wounds. So, you have to find out two different circumstances: different dates of action and locations. The original burial locations also offer a clue and Toivonen who DoW was buried Bény-sur-Mer, which is some distance away from the Regiment's location on that day. In Draper's case, it might be helpful to check the war diary for the day before, ie 31st August 1944. It's also common for some deaths which occurred during the nightime/early hours to be recorded as the 'day after', that's simply when they could be confirmed. Franck, Pte. Draper was killed in a carrier accident on 1 September 1944. Death certificate states "Pinned under a military vehicle which overturned" I've attached the Court of Inquiry hearings. Cpl. Toivonen suffered an "accidental gunshot wound to the head" Injury took place at 2345 hrs on 29 August. The "RG24" you quote is the file series (Records Group) at the Library and Archives in Ottawa which deals with, amongst other things, Canadian service members killed in the war. Regards, Dave
thank you both for your answers and your help. For my next research I will be able to base myself on the cards of the CWGC site but I have to check the information with wd. Thank you for correcting the fault in the title. I did not know how to do it ... Best regards Franck.
