Huge fun but at the risk of p***ing on your parade, your local Firearms’ Branch would have a view on this!

Its all ok the design is over one hundred years old and antique so complies with the law.

All black powder muzzle loaders are OK even though they can still kill. This apparently includes cap and ball revolvers but there is a move to change this as the cylinders can be drilled out and converted to take modern ammo

    For general info;-

Antique blackpowder guns are available without any licensing. They have to be manufactured before 1939 AND muzzle loading OR obsolete ignition system (eg pin fire) OR obsolete calibre centre or rimfire. You cannot own ammunition, nor can you fire them, nor can you own one if you are a prohibited person.

Modern blackpowder guns need a shotgun certificate if smoothbore, 24″ minimum barrel and minimum overall fixed length of 40″

There are other modern blackpowder guns that will need a firearm certificate. Any breachloading gun that has the minimums of 12″ barrel and 24″ overall fixed length. For muzzleloading guns that do not fit into the shotgun certificate then any length.

If you intend to buy loose blackpowder for muzzle loading or loading of cartridges then you need an explosives certificate. Any blackpowder substitute does not require any licensing. You will need a shotgun certificate to buy preloaded blackpowder cartridges but not to hold or acquire. For rifle ammunition you will need a firearm certificate. For any primers for brass cartridges or pre-primed brass for reloading then you will need the appropriate certificate for the gun that would fire them.

Shot, bullets, unprimed brass, primers for non-brass cartridges nor percussion caps for muzzle loaders require a certificate.
