Hoping for help finding mention anywhere of a Major (Kenny) Lockhart. I was told that he was in the "Irish Hussars", WW2, so am assuming that it's 8th King's Royal Irish Hussars. Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Bringing this back up in case anyone has info and missed the post first time round. Would love to have any confirmation of unit or service.
Andy No idea when, that's the problem and why I was hoping he might appear in a History somewhere. I remember him as 'The Major' from when I was a young child, so it'd be great to have something to start off a bit of research. He knew some of my Dad's Officers; small world as they say.
I wondered if I offered to check the field returns in the war diaries for you? (I've been deleting threads I've saved in my windows favourite list)
All I can really say is that he wasn't with the Regiment in May 44, based on a photo of the officers before they went over. I borrowed the book through an interlibrary loan some years ago and stupidly only copied the NWE section. Sorry...
Di, could this be your man? LG 10 NOV 39 https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/34731/supplement/7625/data.pdf ROYAL ARTILLERY. The undermentioned to be 2nd Lts.:— Serjt. Idler I believe you may have the very man. I can't be sure, as I have only a name & Hussars to go by, but this looks 99.99% likely. Thanks very much for this. I did try LG but - obviously - failed miserably. Hate their SE. Really appreciate this.
It looked good: everything tallied apart from the 'Irish'. On the downside, there's no mention of him in The Galloping Third; not that there's any guarantee he was with 3 H for all of his commissioned service.
Thanks for looking again. They were in NA and Italy? Dad said he'd served in NWE, so if he remembers correctly - then yes, something's missing in between. I'm well pleased with confirmation in LG.
Do the campaign medal rolls show the regiment? It might be worth calling in a favour from someone with an Ancestry account?
Just found something else to confirm details above.
