    Hello everyone,

I am looking for information about the Vichy French units that were present in Madagascar during the naval landings in 1942. To my knowledge, there was the '1er Régiment Mixte Malgache' and 'Tirailleurs Malgaches'. I personally am not able to find anything on these aforementioned units. I also believe Senegalese troops were present, but I cannot find anything about that either.

There's a chapter in the "Bright" book - covering the 9th Lancers - on Madagascar, that has some info. and mentions Senegalese.

I took a brief glance at it, but it possibly doesn't cover all you'd be after, since it describes what seems like some confusion / fog of war.

Edit : Battle of Madagascar - Wikipedia

Has an "Order of Battle" - although granted it's Wikipedia etc. I assume it's edited to keep up with what people think is "currently known" etc.

Now awhile ago I read some online accounts of the fighting, that caveat aside I got the impression few Vichy units wanted to fight. Stretching my memory the accounts were for South Africans formations involved.

I note the Wiki entry states:
That quite plausible reflects not the Vichy fighting, but the other factors: climate, terrain, poor inland roads and Vichy laying obstacles.

Many thanks for the replies, everyone! Did the '2ème Régiment Mixte Malgache', 'Bataillon de Tirailleurs Malgache' and '1er Régiment Mixte Malgache' have any sort of insignias? I've attached a picture below of a (presumably) Malagasy soldier, on which you can see some sort of insignia on the collar. I, on the other hand, have no idea what it is.
