The Edward Smith Lock shown above was my uncle and his service record seems to verify my late Grandfathers account told to me that Sapper E.S. Lock came ashore over Gold beach on 8th June to help set up 951 company HQ in Arromanches so I believe a small party was in Normandy on D + 2, he died four months later in a Canadian hospital at Bayeux after the Bedford GS he was in had a head on crash with a US GMC lorry that was overtaking a stationary column at night, according to a witness at the inquest the Bedford was taking R.E. personnel back to 951 Coy HQ at Arromanches so it was still there in October 1944.
    regards Jez.
