Kia ora, I am researching my great uncle who was a New Zealander taken prisoner of war after being shot in Greece in 1941 (7th Anti-Tank Regiment). After being at Stalag 18A (XVIII-A) (Wolfsberg, Carinthia, Austria) he then spent time in the Mallnitz (Spittal an der Drau, Carinthia) & Nickelsdorf (Neusiedl am See, Burgenland) work camps. I am finding it very difficult to find further information about these two specific work camps, the conditions there and the work they were doing. I am also trying to find out more about the liberation of Mallnitz on 11 May 1945 and his journey from the camp to Italy (arriving 19 May 1945).
    1. 1941-1942 Mallnitz - Road Construction (15 months)
    2. 1942 Nickolsdorf - Railway Work (one month)
    3. 1942-1945 Mallnitz - Quarry Work (2.5 years)
    Already consulted:
    His war record.
His General Questionnaire for British/American Ex-Prisoners of War
    Various published war histories
    Stalag 18A website
    Various other websites

    Any help much appreciated.
