Public access to Manoel Island has been possible for some time now, but still remains restricted to the actual Manoel Fort itself (on-going renovation work etc). However, on 29th September, and from 09.00-15.30, access became available. Whilst visiting the Chapel Of Saint Anthony Of Padua, I was amazed to find a memorial dedicated to 5 servicemen of the 10th HAA Regiment of the Royal Artillery, who died on November 1st 1941 whilst defending the fort from aerial attack.
    They are:

    Gunner Philip Brown
    Gunner James Connell (alias Collins)
    Gunner Beryl Ewart Crossland
    Gunner Francis Hampton
    Bombardier George Sharples

My point in posting this is twofold: To remind ourselves of their great sacrifices - Lest We Forget - and equally, to pay homage to that small, quiet army of volunteers who create and maintain such memorials...Thank You!
