Apart from Kew is there any other place where his liberation report may have ended up?

    Thanks

Sadly no, this is the only place where these reports are filed. If the original questionnaire had been removed as it referenced a possible War Crime or similar it appears that a marker was inserted in its place.

In answer to your previous question about being misfiled under another name - this is unlikely as the person filled in their own report so putting the wrong surname is almost impossible.

Only if the writing was very poor/illegible is there a possibility of misfiling but I have looked at many thousands of these reports and most with a difficult to decipher names have had the correct name inserted.

There is one further series where information from a returning POW might be found and that is in the SPG Liberation Reports, however I have checked for all possible spellings of Beechey on my list of these files but he is not listed.

Many, many thanks for all the hard work that you have all done to help.

I will try at some stage (very, very low income at the moment) to send of for his service records.

    Once again many, many thanks!

    Hello,

I am trying to find out where 14580244 Private Horace Hubert Leach, 7 OBLI, was taken prisoner. He died in a German hospital in Rieti on 24 February 1944 and was buried in the Civil Cemetery there before being picked up by 10 Graves Registration Unit and taken to his final resting place in Bolsena War Cemetery in September 1946.

    Thanks in anticipation,

    Vitellino

    Hi,

He was captured on 16th February a few kilometres south east of Aprilia. The battalion had only just taken over positions from Foresters and KSLI very late on the 15tt February after arriving in the beachhead on the 13th. As you can see from the WD entries they had a rough day.

    Hi Vitellino,

7 Ox and Bucks are the only 56 Div unit I do not having the missing persons file for. Next time I'm in Kew I will get it and see if the events above are covered in any more detail.

    Cheers,
    Gary.
