Thanks for the info on the previous photos. The next batch have some writing on the back, but my question is whether or not you think these are probably after Alamein. I'm using photos in with the text from the diaries, and I want to make sure the photos are correctly positioned. 1.150mm 2 ex-Russian used by Germans 3 German infantry carrier 4 German medium 5 Mk 3 Panzer
Hi, photo number 4 is an Italian tank. It may by an M13/40 or a Semovente M40 75/18 or a Command Tank. If you will post it with high resolution it will be possibile find other elements. Enzus
Some rare stuff there. 1) The same 150mm WW1 howitzer as in the other picture you posted, but this time the whole battery! 2) That's a Marder tank destroyer, Russian 76.2mm gun on a pre-war Czech tank chassis (T-38 or T-35) 3) More likely a gun crew carrier/prime mover, unarmoured 4) Scrap, but certainly Italian scrap. 5) A Mk. 3 Special with the higher-performance 50L60 gun All the best Andreas
I think you mean Panzerjaeger I (4.7cm captured Czech Boehler gun on Panzer I chassis). The Marder I was on a Lorraine carrier chassis with a 75mm gun. http://www.lonesentry.com/ordnance/marder-i-french-chassis.html Not sure that ever made it to Africa, but this one in any case is a Marder on a Czech chassis. All the best Andreas
The Marder in this thread is certainly on a Pz 38(t) chassis, not Pz 35(t), and will be a Marder III. The russian 76.2cm PaK36(r) was rechambered to take the PaK 40 cartridge. Reportedly, 66 of these vehicles were sent to North Africa. Chris
Given that it is a very tight picture, the turret could lie just outside it. Impossible to tell in my view. All the best Andreas
I think that a gun tank loaded with 47/32 AP rounds had far less explosive on board than a Semovente with HE shells. For the same reason we can exclude Semovente Comando.
You are presuming that this destruction results from 'cooking off' of on-board ammo. While that is of course possible, given the scale of the destruction, I think it is more likely that the vehicle was blown up by the Royal Engineers. This was pretty standard practice I believe. In the end it's impossible to tell. All the best Andreas
Another element. Gun Tank have the Riva Calzoni turret engine. It should be here But there is nothing, only the intact trasmission shaft. hoping to be of interest.
