There is definitely a joke in there about Andy and a hard drive Yes, that's very similar to how he parks his motorcycles. Can't see him underneath the car though.
Another addition to the eastern Mediterranean collection and what is there not to like about a book with fold out maps?
Interesting--never heard of the author. Is it anything to do with these operations? Adrian Seligman I read No Stars To Guide many years ago.
Typical! Spend a couple of hours at Kew photographing the 79 Armd Div Final Report only to find that there's a copy available sale. Jusg got to find £950 down the back of the settee...
Final Report of 79th Armoured Division £16.50 - admittedly it is only a download though EDIT: Damn ! Just bought it ! ....So weak-willed.....
Been umm-ing & ah-ing about this one for months. Then it suddenly as much as doubled in price. Dropped back down on Books etc. so thought I'd better grab it just in case. Paul Malmassari - Encyclopedia of Armoured Trains (Google Books preview) It's superb. One burning query already answered, & it goes from those Boer War 'Hairy Mary' rope-covered things to Bosnian gear in the 90s. (M36 Jackson (edit: sorry, M18 Hellcat... Don't think of them in a Bosnian War context) & conveyor belt 'armour' mounted up, among other innovations.)
So, on the whole, we're none of us getting too carried away, really: AbeBooks' Most Expensive Sales of 2018
Bought this awhile ago too. I’m not usually one of those “this is the only book you’ll need” types as my bookcase can attest but in this case this is the go to , hard to beat book on armoured trains. I highly doubt it will ever be bettered..
Ploughed into it properly today. Exactly what I said to the completely disinterested other half. Hadn't thought it would cover such modern stuff too. Columbian gear for combatting FARC in the 2000s. etc. The sabotage pages are good, but I do now want more on railway sabotage. (Though I'm guessing modern authorities might notice a researcher who was just a little too keen on the area.)
For railway sabotage you can't beat the Southern Rail: Operations Handbook or pretty much any current timetable...
The Maquis should have sent out several £grand railcards every year too, for that truly dispiriting experience.
The final instalment of my Cretan WW2 themed slip cased book buying problem. My name is Jonathan and I am a bibliophile.
