IMG_20210919_125256_152.jpg My "problem" struck again today at a excess books clearance sale. The red book is a hardcover of With Rommel In The Desert (I have a softcover but it was an inexpensive upgrade) and the Minstrelsy book will be a gift .

Got an ex-library copy specifically for MacGregor Knox's essay: " The sources of Italy's defeat in 1940:Bluff or Insitutionalized Incompetence?"

Orwell, I like the sound of that essay, but which book is it in?

It's in the last title, German Nationalism.
Some other essays that look interesting in the book are "German Army Doctrine 1918-1939 and the post 1945 Theory of "Blitzkrieg Strategy""/ Williamson Murray and " The German Foreign Ministry and the Question of War Guilt 1918-1919"/Eric Hahn

Don't talk wet. There's a floor and almost no trip hazards.

God I detest that shop and all who sail in her! How not to sell secondhand books. A prime site in Lyme and they stuff it full of crap so you can't see the shelves......and it's overpriced. Most of the people who go in only do so to shelter from rain. Wife refuses point blank to even go in:reallymad:

I actually like shops like that, always a hidden gem somewhere, it's just got to be found first. Most of the ones I go into are not that expensive for me

    That made me laugh.
Definitely a 'type' of secondhand bookshop that seem to exist in most towns.
I've a suspicion they don't really want to sell any books & are just social points for the proprietor and their equally miserable/flakey mates, tax dodges, drug fronts or money laundering arrangements.
Often almost pythonesque when you actually try and 'buy a book'.

Not sure if that's a bookstore or a junk shop. (Not sure what you'd call that in the UK - sort of like an antiques store, but very low quality items?)

After thoroughly enjoying ' Shot Down And In The Drink' post # 1288, i managed to source Graham Pitchfork's second book, ' Shot Down And On The Run ' (see below) for less than a fiver.

The illustration was created by Terence Cuneo (TNA: PRO INF 3/1795)
'Second World War airman dropping at night amongst windmills'
