Your ‘guess’ may be even better than you suggest. In his tape Dad describes arriving in what was their final position with only two guns remaining in the troop. They had very little HE left so what they had was given up to another regiment ( I’m not sure that was 139 Field Rgt because I believe Dad’s 10 Field Rgt had 25pounders). The two guns were then placed as anti-tank screen with their relatively plentiful solid AT rounds. Thank you for supplying the information, it means a lot!

Hi, I found this feed whilst looking for information on my Paps regimental boxing.
He was a gunner in the 10th field regiment. I recorded him in his late 80s talking about his experiences at Dunkirk so I thought I might add what he recalled ( it may not be 100% accurate with his years but its what he said.)
He recalled walking to Dunkirk at night, when a red cap dispatch rider came and told them to get rid of their weapons and walk towards the glow in the sky.
They smashed and threw their weapons into a canal which ran alongside the road and headed into Dunkirk with only a pickaxe handle between 8 men. They arrived in daylight but to thick black smoke from the gasometers that were ablaze.
He spoke of the aircraft straffing them as the crossed the beach and his horror of having to run over scores of wounded and dead men to get to the shallows. He waded out as far as he could but as he couldn't swim, his pal George 'Mush' Marshall, had to give him a backy for the rest of the way out. He was rescued by a small fishing boat with three crew and only one life jacket. He believed he sailed to Felixstowe but Ive not been able to confirm this. His brother was less lucky and captured a short distance behind and kept POW for some years.

If anyone has any ideas where i might look for info regarding his boxing, id love to hear them
    Best wishes
    Nicki
