My Grandfather's friend

Discussion in 'Recce' started by bryanwalker1@btinter, Nov 29, 2016.

  1. Hi. I've searched the following soldier,
Private Reuben Edwin Wise 6919540 Recce Corps RAC. He died in Northern Ireland in an RTC Christmas eve 1941. He'd been posted to a training camp at Drumilly Loughgall, Northern Ireland where I'm from. He was a good friend of my Grandfather. I know he was doing the post run to Armagh when he swerved to miss an old lady and lost control of his truck and struck a tree. I know exact location because when I passed it with my Grandfather he would always say "that's where my friend Benny was killed"
I would like to find any documents, photos etc if possible and would appreciate greatly if anyone could help.
    Thanking you.

Hi Bryan, there was a Reuben Edwin Wise born 1906, registered Wandsworth Volume 1d Page 516 and a Reuben E. Wise married "Richardson" in Southwark Volume 1d Page 29 in 1934. Hopefully Tricky Dicky will see this post and confirm. Had a quick look at Findmypast's 1939 ID Register but I can't see him with that middle name. Nothing coming up in the newspaper archives at FMP either, but new papers/years are always being added. Good luck with your search.

Edit: Possible children from the marriage, Joan L. Wise born Southwark Dec 1934 & Irene M. Wise Mar 1937

Apart from the documents which can be downloaded from the CWGC website. I managed to find a photograph of Reuben's inscription upon the Screen Wall at Streatham Park Cemetery.

  10. Gentlemen

Thank you very much for information. Very helpful and will pass on to my father. He was born Loughgall in 1938 where the training camp was and had alot of contact with the troops. From 43 to end of war the Americans took over.
    Regards
    Bryan
