Actually they were her uncles and my great uncles. Pearl Harbor
Hi Stefan, He survived. I knew him when I was growing up but I never talked to him about the war. The only thing I know about his experience is from what he told my mother. He said they were very hungry all the time and that at some point several of them used a picture of Hitler as a toilet and then were afraid they would be shot. Thinking back I remember he was always much thinner than any of his brothers, even 40 years later. He was also the first to die even though he was the youngest. Dave EDIT: I looked up Stalag 5A Malschbach Ludwigsburg Wurtemberg as described in the record. The camp is evacuated on the evening of Easter, April 1, 1945. Prisoners detained at the camp, at the time of evacuation, take part in a forced march across southern Germany. That couldn't have done his health any good. Stalag V-A - Wikipedia
