    It's a Swedish Strv m/42

But with Google image research it's too easy!:D

    Correct on the M42.

Nicholas Moran says that the road wheels weigh 190 KGs each so he wasn't sure what the tankers were supposed to do with the spares mounted on the turret sides.

Possibly an easy one for those who know their trucks, but does anyone have any idea what this vehicle is?

    Tigyaing Lorry.jpg

    Photo caption:
"A lorry of 36th Infantry Division enters the town of Tigyiang during the advance down the Irrawaddy Valley towards Mandalay, 22 December 1944"

And a comment below the article says: "The vehicle is a Gun Tractor towing a 25pdr gun. The case for the dialsight can be seen attached to the gunshield just above the tyre. The tactical sign ’42’ on the vehicle indicates it is from the senior Field Regiment of the Division. If it is 36th British Division then the vehicle belongs to 130th Field Regiment Royal Artillery. The person standing in the vehicle would be the Number One of the Gun, a Sergeant, and appears to have a map in front of him." (from Burma – Britain’s longest campaign of World War II, links to photographs, videos and other resources)

Is that comment right? The date is correct for 130 Fd Regt to be entering the town (the only artillery unit in support of 29 Brigade, isolated from the rest of 36 Division for the push on Twinnge), but is that a 'gun tractor' and is it towing a 25-pounder? Looks like a Chevy badge on the grille, but what is that plate directly below it? Doesn't look like the two rings of 36 Div (if it is a divisional sign). And is the '6' on the left a bridging plate? Should it not have a laden and unladen weight? What is the bundle on the front, the winch?

My uncle George - who fought in Malaya - told me about 40 years ago but I can't remember the make of lorry: Austin or Morris? (I worked in Malaysia in the late 1970s and noted these lorries being built by roadside mechanics for use in logging operations, took a photo and showed the photo to George on my return when he said words to the effect of "bugger me, that's a copy of an old Morris(?) three tonner(?)".....

Interesting truck. As far as I can tell it is NOT an M-19, Diamond T or Ward Lafrance so I'm stumped.

You are close, but it isn't a Knuckey or a
M26 prototype. It is a prototype though :)

    Right!

I never heard of either the Knuckey or Dart companies until yesterday. Nothing on the net about them except the two pictures of the Dart used in this thread. I only knew of Pacific Car and Foundry for the M26.

Dart front end looks a bit like a FAMO.

    I thought similar.
Whole arrangement reminds me of large German gear. The big Fauns etc.

The Standard Jungle Jeep & Trailer, developed for Burma.
Each man with his own motorcycle saddle, I see.

Cheers for forcing first deployment of 'new' Fletcher book.

Car Ultra Lightweight 4x2 (Standard). He beat me to it, though Standard made several LW and Ultra LW vehicles.
