I think we're going to need a clue on this one.

I don't think it is Christie suspension but I'm not sure.

I'm going to shoot from the hip & say a 170 Mercedes, but I'm heartily confused by smaller German gear & it doesn't match my immediately accessible pic of a VK.

    'Kfz.2' probably my cop-out designation.

Pretty much on the money VP,
    Daimler Benz, 170VL.
Powered by 1.7 litre, six cylinder engine.
Not many were produced, as the vehicle was deemed dangerous and was soon abandoned.

    Graham. NEXT.

    I call it ghastly. :D

P.S. It's not some kind of 1920s artillery tractor, is it? The camouflage resembles something I've seen about WW1 tank camouflage, and the suspension looks... early.

It's a World War I Holt 5-ton artillery tractor. Armor for the engine but not the driver. :)

    Quite so.
Not certain it went past the trials stage (?), some interesting further variants on the 5 & 10 ton theme out there too.

    Yep, you got it matey.
It carried three rockets either side which were 28 or 32 cm. Because of the backblast from the rockets the crew had to leave the halftrack before firing the rockets. Each rocket could have it's angle altered, but it's accuracy left much to be desired, but was adequate for area bombardment.

Ok I feel I should offer one up. Forgive me that I haven't been through all 152 pages of this thread to make sure it's not been posted before

Funny. The Killen-Strait 'Armoured' came up on Twatter yesterday.
Decent claim to being the first armoured fully tracked vehicle.

    Yes!
