I knew the 'turret' reminded me of something, but couldn't put my finger on it ....until you mentioned the TOG II ...it is somewhat similar at a quick glance.

A real challenge, but the true Panzer-Enthusiast may recognize a certain detail who reveals the origins (Well, Mr. von P.??)
Hard to believe, but this heap of scrap was reincarnated

Construction workers were never famous for a subtle taste of fashion....and you´re obviously no tank conaisseur. Small hint: good old Guenther is no part of the question, he just excavated the thing :D

Thought that wheel was 38-ish, so went digging about.

Christ! I've seen that Crompton PzJgr 38 rumbling around.
Had no idea it was found in that state.

    Good one, by the way.
That was not an easy confirmation.
(Even my missus impressed by the hole to restoration. Not often impressed by such things...)

Muahaha....un-be-fucking-lievable!!!! That document is my own work!....many, many years ago.
Part of a VERY early attempt of a military history of my district
Was unaware it´s around the net...unbelievable!!

This particular tank was part of Panzer-Einsatz Abteilung 20 from Hamburg and shot down at the Battle of Cloppenburg
but immediately recovered and on the way to Oldenburg for repairs.
Somewhere near Garrel it went straightway in a German tank trap. Post war the farmers buried in on site,
repaired the Macadam road and forget it...until the street was rebuild in 1983
Made a trip with my moped to the site, hence I know the name of the ecavator operator....
    ripped it into three parts...
Anyway, I´m most impressed how fast you solved it....ganz Famos!

Here's another one, what's throwing me is the pistol port on that side of the turret (and the pic hasn't been inverted, or anything)

I found this page showing a pistol port on the right side. Does this help?

    First thought was Staghound turret.
If we're still in Bov's car park, though - you have to tread carefully as there's some weird & wonderful things lying about.

Rather more uncommon Deerhound, with hatch:

Other details don't quite match, but given it's borderline extemporised nature, lord knows.

Hi, yes, I had a look at this page, and it was here where I realised the pistol port was on the wrong side, if it was a Sherman turret, although it looks a bit small.

Could be! I realised while enlarging the photo that there are numbers cast/etched above the gun mantel gap, but can't make them out...(probably says Made in Taiwan, or something)
or it could be from one of these..T18 Boarhound

Never heard of it, been around the museum loads of times and never noticed it...the port fits..

No, you're right, it looks like a Deerhound to me, see below:

Same vehicle, different angle, perfect fit! Cheers!

(There's a surprising amount of those T17/Hound cars still about.)

    He's got it as T17E1.

Which could possibly be interpreted as 'Staghound', but maybe more initial US designation for that design - I've not got a great amount of detailed reference on them, so no idea about hatch mods etc.
Might be an early standard, given its location - shots of the earliest have the hatches:

But yeah, I keep coming back to Deerhound.

War Wheels probably worth a stare, as ever.

Now to go looking for more books on US Armoured Cars.

There's a Hunnicutt volume on armoured cars... don't know what the reprint edition is like, though.

    Also, not cheap.

I wasn't certain I'd buy more Hunnicutt unless I found them really cheap.
The Sherman one was worth the eye-watering price a few years back, but there's an increasing amount of modern scholarship that's maybe a tad more cutting edge.
He does/did bolt together excellent core info, though. The illustrations alone seem to form the backbone of so much Sherman stuff you see on the Internerd.

And I hadn't noticed the newer paperback editions, some of which are a far more tolerable 30-ish quid.
    Hmmm.

I must admit I've never really been into armoured cars, but I quite like that one....perfect for driving to the local supermarket and enforcing social distancing.....now where's my Xmas list??
