Question from my Father-in-law, does Kew come under the London congestion charge ? edit: looks like NO to that ? http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tfl/roadusers/congestioncharge/whereandwhen/ checked postcode.
Make sure that he doesn't arrive in an old diesel van or Land Rover as the Low Emission Zone is much broader. https://lowemissionzone.tfl.gov.uk/b/pb/zoneResults.faces It's strange how they give a green tick to the LED and a red cross to the congestion charge, as if the motorist would be hoping to be able to travel inside both !
Does anyone know if you can still order in advance even though your Reader's ticket has run out? Otherwise I'll be wasting about 2 hours which is highly frustrating. Tom
I'm afraid not. Had the same problem the week before last. Got a new readers ticket and had a desk with my first docs by 10am. Be there at 9 sharp though with Passport and recent Utility bill with an address as you have to do the user registration all over again. Don't do as I did and forget them, as I had to go home and come back a few days later.
Just to back up what Rob says, make sure that you're the first one in and you won't lose too much time. The card issue is immediate. The cafetaria is open from 8.30 so you can have a coffee and then dash for the stairs like a ferret down a rabbit hole as soon as they take the cord away.
Belly, There is a very handy and reasonably priced Bed and Breakfast within a few minutes walk of TNA (and the Railway pub). I have stayed there a couple of times and as long as you don't mind old-fashioned furniture, creaking floorboards and a rather small breakfast it is good value. Forgot to add - there is resident only permit parking on the street (Cumberland Road) but the owners will let you park on their drive IF you make prior arrangements with them. If anyone wants contact details PM me.
How much is it a night Mike? I'm starting to consider alternatives to driving from Leeds or Folkstone everyday with the ever increasing fuel costs.
Andy - I think it is currently about £30 per night which is pretty good for Kew. That is single room rate.
Mike Can you PM me details, last time I stayed up there was in Premier Inn which with Dinner and Brekkie cost over £120... I usually stay in East London with daughter and husband but that's an hour away by tube, which I hate using in the morning ! one of the reasons we moved to the country!! they are also moving too so not sure about my 'free' accomadation in the near future Andy
According to Caroline Ottaway-Searle, Director Public Services and Human Resources, writing in this month's edition of "Magna", the magazine of the Friends of the National Archives in an "Update from the National Archives" on page 5: " Like other government departments we have been in talks with HM Treasury about our future funding and in August we agreed our budget for 2015-16 - £29.9 million, a cut of five percent. This is challenging but achievable and we are confident that through greater efficiency and innovation we can make these savings without diminishing the quality of our public services. "
And the report back on his first ever visit. Was this his first encounter with Helga I wonder? I like his final comment. He did go back and the rest is History as they say.
