    Hi

I hope this is the right forum. I am planning a visit to the National Archives at Kew next month and as a complete novice would appreciate any advice from some of you old hands on how to go about it

Specifically i am hoping to discover any information regarding the crew and sinking of HMS Boadicea in 1944

    Cheers

My advice would be to plan and prepare very carefully. You can look up what you need via the Discovery Catalogue online, then once you have found what you need, order them up front, which you can do even though you might not have a physical readers ticket as yet. Once you have registered to get a readers card, make sure you take the right documentation with you, otherwise you will not get a readers card or be allowed in!

Then hopefully off you go, hope you find what you are looking for.

    Regards
    Andy

The file you appear to be looking for is ADM 358/3083 which apart from dealing with the sinking of the Boadicea on 13th June 1944 also includes information about two previous incidents when it was damaged by enemy action.

If that is the only file that you are interested in and you are travelling some distance to obtain a copy it might be cheaper to use the services of Drew5233 or Lee (Psywar.org) on this site who will copy files for a small fee

Thanks...I was planning to spend a whole day there on Tuesday Mar 26. Apart from the Boadicea stuff there are plenty of other things I was hoping to ferret around for. At this stage I think the earlier stuff involving Boadicea occurred at a time when I'm sure Dad was elsewhere. To be honest there are so many things I'm hoping to look for I'm not sure where to start!
